Doc Hits the Century Mark

I remember being there in 2003 when Doc won his club record 22nd win. Rogers Centre went nuts. I can't say the place was as rocking last night when Doc got his 100th career victory (I'm not sure a lot of people realised it), but it was incredible. I have seen Doc pitch many times, but I think last night was one of my favourite games.

Consider this:
- He had his appendix out 3 wks ago today.
- He pitched 7 innings
- Struck out 7; walked none
- Gave up 6 hits

I was at the game on May 10th when Doc pitched last. It was uncharacteristic. For the first time since before he went back down to Single A, he looked uncomfortable on the mound. Except looking a little tired near the end of his 7 innings, he was typical Doc. Especially when he called Sal Fasano his MVP of the day. As John Gibbons put it "I don't know if there's anybody else out there who can do that." (see the Jays' site for more Halladay praise.)

Congratulations Harry Leroy Halladay. I will never respect a ball player more, and having heard the praise given of you by Casey Janssen at Baseball 101, my respect and admiration are well placed.
